Tamil Nadu Accelerates Renewable Energy Growth with Strategic Policies

Tamil Nadu has rolled out a series of forward-thinking renewable energy policies aimed at significantly increasing its clean energy output. The state is working toward an ambitious target of generating 20,000 MW of renewable power by 2030. These policies focus on upgrading infrastructure, ensuring grid stability, and attracting investments.

1. Wind Repowering and Life Extension Policy: Tamil Nadu is a leader in wind energy, but many of its turbines are outdated. The new policy encourages the replacement of old wind turbines with modern, more efficient models to maximize energy output. In addition, the state is working on life-extension initiatives for existing wind turbines, which will further improve the efficiency of its wind energy sector.
2. Small Hydropower Projects: The state is promoting the development of small hydel plants, which can leverage local water bodies to produce clean energy. These projects, typically smaller than 25 MW, are seen as vital for boosting Tamil Nadu’s green energy portfolio.
